We have been writing articles about the world of AI for some time now to understand together how it is evolving and what influence it has on our lives. We have certainly witnessed a very rapid process: a few years ago, we claimed that one day AI would be a tool to use; today, we can say it has effectively entered our professional and everyday lives.
The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is currently taking place in Barcelona, where major tech companies, especially in the mobile sector, are presenting their products and visions for the coming months. Qualcomm, the California-based research and development company in the telecommunications field, has unveiled new hardware that looks to the future and defines a clear objective: Artificial Intelligence in every device.
From smartphones to PCs, from cars to smart factories: the new frontier is "on-device AI," meaning it is processed directly by the device's processor to ensure greater speed, privacy, and efficiency.
The AI Hub Revolution: 75 models at your fingertips
One of the biggest announcements is the launch of the Qualcomm AI Hub. This is a comprehensive library for developers containing over 75 pre-optimized AI models (such as Whisper, Llama 2, and Stable Diffusion). Thanks to this library, developers will be able to integrate these models into their apps, significantly reducing processing times.
Not just smartphones: PC, Wearable, and Automotive
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Snapdragon X Elite platforms gave us just a taste of what the American company has in store. In Barcelona, they unveiled the Snapdragon Wear Elite, designed for next-generation smartwatches and wearables. This chip allows us to have a personal assistant capable of understanding context, speaking to us naturally, and performing actions on the user's behalf. Everything happens locally, on our wrist or perhaps even on our finger.
But Qualcomm’s vision doesn't stop at devices; it seeks to understand and design how everything will be integrated into new systems where AI becomes a privileged tool. As reported by "Il Sole 24 Ore," together with Siemens, they are showcasing the future of automotive production: autonomous vehicles transporting materials, all entities of the Factory 4.0 communicating via 5G connection (by Siemens), robotic arms assembling parts, and AI agents analyzing system status to identify issues and suggest solutions.
The future, in fact, is already here.

The first devices featuring the new Snapdragon Wear Elite will arrive in the coming months through partnerships with Samsung, Google, and Motorola. This shows just how fast the revolution we have often discussed is moving. It will only take a few years to understand how realistic the vision of Automotive 4.0 will be and at what cost.
The step currently being taken—which will be the leitmotif of this year—is undoubtedly the shift away from servers in favor of on-device management. In this scenario, AI will truly be in everyone’s hands.
