The University of Pisa has entered into an agreement with OpenAI to establish a long-term collaboration, as part of a broader framework of initiatives in the field of Artificial Intelligence. These initiatives include master's degree programs, research projects, and advanced training courses, highlighting the university's commitment to AI development.

The agreement was signed following the adoption of ChatGPT Edu, a version of the popular artificial intelligence specifically designed for the educational sector and introduced last March. This version is intended to promote the ethical and responsible use of AI in the sensitive and crucial field of education.

As highlighted by Prof. Antonio Cisternino, President of the University’s IT System, the University of Pisa already had a year of experience with OpenAI technologies, which was a key reason for joining the Edu program, making it one of the first universities worldwide to actively explore the use of Edu AI in a university context.

Leah Belsky, General Manager for Education at OpenAI, expressed great enthusiasm for the agreement, emphasizing that the University of Pisa is "paving the way for a positive use of AI in education."

The university is already using AI to develop Oraculum/Sibylla, an open-source project aimed at creating chatbots capable of providing detailed information on university regulations and procedures in multiple languages. Additionally, it is working on establishing GoodAI-Labs, a multidisciplinary lab for studying and validating safe, ethical, and transparent artificial intelligence systems.
